During my early morning “me time” on Monday, March 1, 2010 I heard a television broadcast about a grand opening for a playground for all abilities — Scott’s Place. Despite my prior schedule that day I had to go to see this place for myself. I was so excited about the potential I convinced my husband to come along. It was wonderful to see. Yes, a universally accessible playground that provided barrier-free play to be enjoyed by children with and without disabilities (inclusion), so they could all enjoy the outdoor interaction and experience play opportunities.
The playground also allowed adults with special needs to be included interactively with play with their children. I never considered that possibility until visiting Scott’s Place. The special grass turf, wide walkways, and ramps provide access to all play areas including sensory elements to entertain and engage the senses. That is powerful! An inspiration to what we can all do with minimal or no additional cost with proactive planning and strategic thought to include all.
The Scott’s Place project was made possible by the Williamson family donating $250,000 along with matching funds from the GE Foundation to Wellington to build a playground that will be accessible to children of differing abilities.

Thank Mr. & Mrs. Williams, GE Foundation, and all others for supporting this special project. In addition, to the more than 300 volunteers which came together to help put together the park equipment in 2 days. Your contributions inspire me to continue our endeavors to fund and build our in-style vehicles for all.
Here are a couple of photos from the grand opening and other photos that show more about this special place.
